Sunny Seoul BBQ, Sunnybank, Brisbane

Sunny Seoul is always a great place to go for Korean BBQ, though they seem to be in a more humble and casual setting, don't underestimate their quality as well as portion of food. With more Korean restaurants around, it can be said that the newer restaurants are getting more crowded than the older ones. Nearest to Sunny Seoul, there are about 3 to 4 other restaurants nearby which makes it abit of a challenge when wanting to go for BBQ and deciding where to go. With Sunny Seoul, the best part about it would be the friendly customer service as well as their variety of side dishes..
One of the best places to get KBBQ along with 6 different variety of side dishes that are both delicious and refillable. Ranging from kimchi, marinated cucumber and sesame seed, mash sweet potato, cold creamy glass noodles and so on.. It seems that other Korean restaurants don't seem to be giving their diners this much side dishes, well, don't compare it to buffets of course but instead your usual KBBQ restaurant.
'Pork Belly' ($18) is definitely one of the most popular meats in BBQ as well as I do feel that it is one of the best or even the best. Although some of the restaurants do offer 2 different types of cutting whether it may be thick sliced or thin slices.
'Marinated Beef' ($18) is simple but delicious though it did seem like they just chucked a whole big spoonful of it on a plate and placed a few veges on the side. It is more of a minced beef marinated in bulgogi sauce which is one of their beef dishes usually served with warm rice on the side. Also, on the menu it does say the meats are served with assorted vegetables which people may find it abit err in a way where it could've been presented in a way that actually mean what it says. Instead, it always only consist of a mushroom sliced in half and a slice of pumpkin. Pretty sure they could've given abit more than that..
'Kimchi Pancake' is great when sharing and also wanting something on the side instead of soup or dumplings. I would recommend pancakes more than dumplings to share. Also, a nice tip of what I like to do is by placing a slice of the pancake onto the grill to make that smoky flavour and also heating it up at the same time. The kimchi taste was there but I'm unsure if they do use just powder or real kimchi in it.

Momo Chicken & Beer, Runcorn, Brisbane

If you like to eat fried chicken with one hand and have a nice cold beer on the other, then you definitely have to try Momo Chicken and Beer. Although it isn't your typical KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken), these are also called KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and do offer a different way of serving your usual fried chicken. With great variety in terms of flavours as well as other dishes other than chicken if you're not up for a full fried chicken meal or just wanting to have something extra on the side. Whether you want saucy or just original or even marinated in spicy sauce, soy sauce base or even a mixture of half and half, you simply can spice it up here and yes, you do get a side of crispy thin golden potato crisps with every fried chicken ordered.

Maru Korean BBQ Restaurant, Elizabeth St, Brisbane CBD

Maru has now expanded to 2 floors for those who haven't been there yet after their renovation. Came through lunchtime as we wanted something quick but simple, yet we all realised the easiest would be Korean food. As we waited in line and gosh, there were so many people waiting in line so we thought that if we don't get our table in 15 minutes, then we would just go elsewhere. It was rather noisy too I might add. Luckily, we were called after about 10 minutes and received our table on the lower floor of the restaurant.
'Teriyaki Bibimbap in Stone Bowl' ($12.8) where you can choose your sauce and topping which includes Teriyaki or Curry sauce and a choice of Deep fried chicken, deep fried pork or fried tofu. Above is the Deep fried chicken with teriyaki sauce. Portion wise was enough for me although I did find that there was a lot of rice at the bottom but the amount of the deep fried chicken was a sufficient amount. The teriyaki sauce can get a bit boring but the addition of spring onions, sesame seed and mayo allows the dish to be its own bringing out the creaminess from the mayo when mixed all together, you are able to taste the crunchy fried chicken pieces as well as warm rice and somewhat a cream teriyaki sauce.
'Ziggle Bulgogi' ($9.9) is just your typical classic marinated beef and onion dish. The only difference is that it is served on a stone plate which keeps the dish hot and sizzling while you continue to eat. This dish do come with a bowl of rice and here is a tip if you would like to.. Get a few spoonfuls of rice and put with the Bulgogi dish and mix it altogether so that your warm rice can absorb the marination and sauce whilst also allowing your rice to stay warm. The bulgogi was cooked well and the amount is just right for a lunch meal. The addition of spring onions on top allows the dish to bring out more colour.

Mr Bap, Pinelands Plaza, Sunnybank Hills, Brisbane

Mr Bap is located in Pinelands Plaza where Nandos, Shalom, Toppoki 88 and Coles etc are at. I didn't realise there was a Korean BBQ restaurant in the complex but I always go past the shopping complex everytime I go to one of my favourite sushi spots. A friend of ours had suggested to come here and so here we are.. It was quite empty when we entered for lunch, with only maybe a few tables were filled while we were there.

Wara Wara Izakaya, Elizabeth St, Brisbane CBD

Wara Wara was one of my favourites back then, but it seems their quality and standards has decreased over the months and years now. Here for lunch, we came in with grumbling tummies, we entered into Wara Wara since it was the closest.. We ordered our dishes but were quite dissapointed with both in the end..

Wara Wara Izakaya, Elizabeth St, Brisbane CBD

Another revisit to Wara Wara on a fine but chilly day, coming in at mid afternoon means that restaurants would not be full but quiet. We entered Wara Wara and its design and interior is still the same regardless of the fact that their nearest competitor has just expanded their restaurant in which both were Korean restaurants but Wara Wara has more of a fusion of Japanese within some of its dishes. We sat in one of the booths and looked through the menu. One downside I have to add about Wara Wara is that they don't have any Korean BBQ, although we initially wanted Korean BBQ but as soon as we realised there weren't any, we thought we might just order what's available instead of changing restaurants.

Gami Chicken & Beer, Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne CBD

Gami Chicken and Beer has a few locations scattered in Melbourne CBD, we wanted to go somewhere close to where we were so we went to the Little Lonsdale St Branch, however we kind of got lost and went the opposite direction and since it was hard finding the numbers on the buildings, we actually ended up having to make a u-turn and walk back to the other side, Little Lonsdale St was quite a long road. So, this chicken better be good we thought, since we even wanted to go somewhere else since we couldn't be bothered walking back and far.. but in the end, we thought, who cares, just give it a go, and definitely... no regrets.

Kkuldak, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia

I've walked past this shop numerous times but never really got my head turning for it, other than I realised there was always a line which I usually can't be bothered to wait for.. However, since my sister recommended it to me one day and told me to try it when I have time, so, I did. We were quite full from lunch, wanting to go for dinner but since the time was still quite early plus we were quite bored of walking and shopping around, we decided to just try it as I mentioned it to him as we walked past it..

Midam Korean Charcoal BBQ, Sunnybank Hills, Brisbane

The last time we ate here was for their Korean BBQ Buffet so when we decided to come for a-la-carte during dinner on a weekday, we didn't know what to expect. The restaurant was somewhat busy but only on one side of it which was the Korean BBQ area whilst the normal tables and seats weren't as full. The only problem I've had with Midam is that their side dishes options aren't as much as the other korean restaurants you go to. You only kind of just get the basics..

Maru Korean BBQ Restaurant, Elizabeth St, Brisbane CBD, Brisbane

Maru in Elizabeth St has just recently became the largest Korean restaurant in Brisbane, having now not only the upper floor but also ground floor. Having went there before renovations began, we wanted a simple light lunch that wasn't too heavy for the both of us and I thought it's been awhile since I visited Maru..

Midam Korean Charcoal BBQ, Sunnybank Hills, Brisbane

Midam Korean Charcoal BBQ is located at Sunnybank Hills, just behind Pinelands Plaza. They offer a wide range of Korean dishes, either a-la-carte or bbq buffet, though I think they specialize more on their Charcoal BBQ. From the outside, the restaurant may look small but when you step in, it is rather big.

Hong Depot, Melbourne St, South Brisbane, Brisbane

Hong Depot, a Korean restaurant offering both A-la-carte and BBQ. Though its location is a bit out of place, the corner of Melbourne St in West End, opposite where Coles is, and close to the well-known Three Monkeys.. I don't usually go for Korean in West End, a bit off for me as my usual Korean restaurants would either be in the CBD or in the southside..
