Oliver Brown, Westfield Garden City, Upper Mount Gravatt, Brisbane

Oliver Brown, reminds me of Oliver from Snoopy although they don't have any relation whatsoever, but somehow it always reminds me of Snoopy. Hailing from Belgium in 2009 when two friends discovered the taste of authentic Belgian chocolate and was obsessed with it. This is a great substitute for you if you can't be bothered going to Max B or San Churros as it is conveniently located in Westfield Garden City which is great allowing you to have a coffee break or even just a nibble when you're tired or meeting up with friends or just had enough of shopping.
'Cappucino' ($3.8)
'Flat White' ($3.8)
'Grilled Banana Walnut Waffles for one' ($13.5) consists of a single waffle, grilled bananas, walnuts, vanilla ice cream drizzled with premium milk belgium chocolate. A portion for one was enough for us as we didn't want to eat too much since we just had lunch. So a coffee break was ideal for the both of us, not wanting to go shopping as much and plus, we were quite lazy I guess. Ordering the grill banana walnut waffles was just perfect and compared to the other desserts on the menu, this just seemed to be the one that caught our eyes together. One downside was that the whole dish just went cold quite quickly so do try and eat it quickly.
It is nice to see the grilled marks giving the smoky residue as well as smoky flavour.

Scuzi Caffe, Westfield Chermside, Brisbane

Having brunch or breakfast in Scuzi may be a good place to go to if you are up for cafe food and somewhere easy and nearby. There are a wide range of options to choose from but then, some may be a better choice and worth than others. We weren't too hungry hence why we ended up just buying a light meal while we chatted away.

Schnitz, Westfield Garden City, Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane

Schnitz began in 2007 with a single restaurant by Polish born schnitzel expert which featured his signature schnitzel on every menu. However, his sons decided to perfect the art of schnitzel making by making it made to order, pan cooked to bring the best out of their of their special crumb. Although they do state that they want to be able to keep bringing the benchmark in schnitzel making by combining the freshest ingredients and modern methods in every schnitzel they make. But does it really live up to what it says?

Donut Boyz, Westfield Garden City, Upper Mount Gravatt, Brisbane

Donut Boyz is one of the many donut businesses nowadays trying to get everyone back to their donut craze back in the days. Don't think of your usual cinnamon donuts, these are sugar glazed or jam filled, even topped with your favourites. Starting by a trial of a pop-up stall selling homemade donut and having many sold out donuts every day, it was said that they even regularly sell more than 1500 donuts in just a few hours. Since then, they expanded and opened in multiple locations.
Seeing that we were having a walk in the mall, we decided to stop by and grab some donuts as they were in the mall and seemed quite convenient rather than us having to go out and grab them off their food trucks elsewhere. Some were sold out and sadly some of the flavours we had wanted to try and buy originally were not available and so, we ended up buying other flavours that were available.
'Malted Milkshake' ($5) was a vanilla glaze donut with malt custard filling and chocolate crispies on top.
'Aunty Violet' ($5) was a honeycomb glazed donut with caramel custard filling and pop rocks on top. A sweet throughout donut having a honeycomb glaze and caramel custard inside it. I prefer the Malted Milkshake if I had to choose one out of the two.
'Caramel Nerd' ($5) was a caramel glaze and has salted caramel nerds on top. I have to say that this was quite sweet compared to the others and that's no surprise being all caramel. I quite liked the salted caramel nerds on top as it balanced the sweetness overall with the salty little pops.

Le Bon Choix, Westfield Garden City, Brisbane

It's nice to have Le Bon Choix in Westfield as it saves time for you to go down to the CBD or my usual spot at the Ascot branch. But when you're just in the mall walking and would like to have coffee and cake somewhere, sometimes you just don't feel like the usual cafes available. What I love about Le Bon Choix would definitely be their cakes as well as their breads, as for their coffee, they are okay but it just depends on who is behind the machine making it for you as sometimes it can be good and not so-good. However, this time, wanting to try their Ice Chocolate and it turned out to be the worst decision...
Flat White
Ice Chocolate - definitely won't be ordering again
Having always ordered coffees, I decided to order an Ice Chocolate this time. Unfortunately, it was a bad idea and I should've probably stayed with my usual coffee. Imagining a dollop of ice cream floating on top of a creamy, milky chocolatey drink did not happen. Instead, what came out was a very watery, filled with ice and what seemed to be cocoa powder/chocolate syrup at the bottom of the tumbler and not so milky. It basically looks like someone has just (in order) poured chocolate syrup, abit of milk, lots of water and then top it all off with a big spoonful of ice. To be harshly honest, it was quite gross. It's not like drinking milo with water or milo with milk as they are quite good either way and even if it was better with milk, this was just way off. The taste of the chocolate was just ruined by the amount of water and ice cubes. The amount of milk was just not there.. you couldn't even taste the milk. Imagine drinking milk and water.. and hints of chocolate here and there. An ice chocolate is a real drink, although it's not supposed to be like a milkshake or it may not always have your whipped cream on top or yes, it may have a few ice cubes. But, this was just out of the picture. Although you try and mix the chocolate syrup inside, the ratio of the water and ice cubes basically overpowered the whole drink which makes the drink not creamy or even milky at all. Just ruined it. It was just super duper liquidy and on top of that, it's already full of water, they decided to top it up more with ice cubes. So, what I received was definitely not an Ice Chocolate.

And no, I did not finish the drink.

Apologies for the rant.. It just made me so annoyed as I have always loved eating and having their coffees even if in some of the branches, some people serving you may not always be the friendliest, but this just ruined my experience for me.

Seriously, for Le Bon Choix? I did not expect that at all for quality and presentation. Even the waiter that brought us our drinks spilled some of the flat white onto the saucer and on the table in which we had to be the ones wiping the mess as she just walked off.
'Almond Croissant' ($3.9) has always been one of the best Almond croissants whether it is toasted or not. The almond meal is perfect and having the icing sugar giving it that pretty touch as well as the almond pieces on top. Do grab one or a few when you're here, will not disappoint at all.
'Clio' ($7.8) a rich, smooth and punchy blackforest cheesecake. There is a unique way of layering in this slice having the cheesecake in the middle being sandwiched between two chocolate dense sponge cake. You are also able to see the chocolate thin pieces in the cheesecake as well as cherry. On top of that seems to be a layer of cherry jelly as well as square cuts of white chocolate pieces. An exquisite dish if you are a fan of cherry and chocolate as well as blackforest cakes.

Beach House Bar & Grill, Westfield Chermside, Chermside, Brisbane

The Beach House has always been one of the go to places when you're in the CBD and wanting a simple but casual dining place to have a beer or pub food while listening to live music. Although it could get loud at times especially on friday nights, it would always be quite packed. Now that they've opened at Westfield Chermside, it allows people living around the area to try and dine the same or even a better experience.
A new feel, much more modern but still keeping its casual ambience when compared to the city restaurant. Beach House has always been a more of a self service restaurant meaning that there is no table service. You order at the counter, get given a buzzer then when the buzzer vibrates, you would have to pick up your own food at the counter. Usually this can get confusing when there are similar or the same food on the counter meaning that they may be other diners' food and not yours. It is sometimes hard though to get the attention of the waiters because even if they were not as busy, let's say walking around or standing around the bar as they seem to be nowhere near and the person at the counter would be busy taking orders. It is quite hard when you don't get any advice on which were your meals or her or his meals so you would just have to go with your feeling and hope that the food you're taking off the table is yours.
Lunch specials of $9.90 dishes offers a few various choices you may choose. This was their 'Rump & chips and salad' with any sauce of your choice. The fries were beer battered which was crispy and fried well, the salad is just a simple garden salad with a mixture of greens, shredded carrots, tomato and cucumber. The salad looked fresh but was bland due to the lack of sauce.
The steak was cooked well to our liking, the pepper sauce however though was not as strong as I thought it would be, there were bits of peppercorn but they were just very light in terms of texture but overall, it is a pub meal and it wasn't too bad.
'Chicken Parmigiana & chips and salad' seemed to have been done in a rush or so as the plate was kind of all over the place when we were picking it up from the counter. Again, beer battered fries and garden salad was the same as above however there was more sauce on the salad than before.
As for the chicken itself, I was quite dissapointed.. It was very small as you can see in portion, it seemed like the biggest chip would be its size. A slab of cheese and ham on top along with a tomato based sauce or napoli sauce as it may be, did not make it any better. The tomato sauce based didn't seem to have much seasoning whilst some of the chicken breast seemed to have some burnt areas along the edges.
As you can see, the chicken breast was very thin and although the crumb was thin, the whole dish just didn't do it for me overall.
I quite enjoyed the interior of the restaurant, it has been designed well giving it a homey but also beach side feeling with bits of pieces of the things you could find at the side of the beach and also the artificial greens in the pots just gave the whole wall a bright new light and a nice view while eating.

Kinn Thai, Westfield Garden City, Brisbane

Kinn Thai is one of the many restaurants in Westfield Garden City's forecourt. Kinn Thai may just be the only Thai restaurant in the mall and with stunning views of the outdoor garden and fresh air, you sure are missing out if you don't give this a try whether it may be for lunch or dinner..

Gallery Cafe, Westfield Chermside, Brisbane

Gallery Cafe is situated right at the centre of the mall in front of David Jones in Westfield Chermside. I would always walk past it but never tried it though I have tried their sister restaurant in Carindale. We decided to have a quick not-so-filling-lunch as we weren't that hungry and whilst walking past it, we thought we would try the place.
